Played today for about 4 hours...at a shop party where myself, and the bass and lead guitar player in our small band work. There's about 50 or so people in our shop, and what the heck, they asked us to provide a little free entertainment for the BBQ party. It was cool as heck jamming our asses off on the clock at a company party. But i gotta say, what caught me off guard was nerves...man, I aint been that nervous in a long time!!! In fact, it's got to be just about one of the toughest things I've done, playing in front of guys I work with every day, including our boss, his boss, his boss, and the big boss Shocked ...but it came off great, we all had a good time and got a lot of positive comments.

Feels great doesn't it? I got asked today to be the entertainment at our apartment's end of school party for the kids at the swimming pool. It's gonna be awkward because I have never played other than at church really and at work once but I will be fine.

You can do it, Harry! Very Happy

Y'know, have you guys noticed that "Work Party" is really an oxymoron? Laughing

Dean, the "nervousest" I ever got was playing solo for the funeral of the son of a good friend over thirty years ago. Everyone was tense and solemn; and I knew one tiny mistake would be so obvious it might upset her and start her crying. I haven't played anything like that since. Confused

Herb, I think that's why I am petrified when I play in church...it's so quiet and sterle, one little booboo and it's totally obvious Crying or Very sad

Hey the swimming pool party sounds great...I remember when I lived in an apartment complex...I'm not sure I could have concentrated on my music though Shocked Cool

The interesting thing about playing for the shop party is because it's the first time most of the guys have heard us in this type of setting. Two of the 3 of us actually picked up guitar as a hobby, and started learning over lunch breaks...often jamming in the locker room. Some of our co-workers have heard us from the first akward pluck. Over the years we've gotten dead serious, and a 3rd co-worker joined us who had played in a band 20 years ago and missed it. At first we got some laughs and the guys were always ready with plenty of comments...but they aren't laughing anymore Razz ...as the party went on yesterday, some of the guys were getting drunker and they even set up a make shift "american idol" table with judges and started rating the songs and it just turned into one of the funnest rowdy gut splitting afternoons I've ever had.
