I like Martin's. They give a good bite.

I used to play Martins when I had a really mellow guitar. Whichever you get, buy mediums if your fingers and guitar can take itl The sound is fuller and louder.

Now days I use Elixirs but you might find them a bit to mellow. You can check out the sound at the site at the link below. Click on MP3 Music to go to the songs. Most of the song have a 6 string acoustic somewhere. A couple are exclusive 6 string. All are using medium Elixirs.

Shameless plug. But it might help.

Oh for sure the Elixirs are mellow.

Bright strings are the ones that are phosphor coated. You might say too bright.

In that department, I think that John Pearse is the class act, and others follow closely in his footsteps. Very Happy

I'd have to agree on the Martins. I use extra light on my acoustic. The sound is bright, but at the same time it doesn't sound like Quazimodo is pulling on big Rose's rope whenever I play. Which, for me, is a good thing. Cool

Phosphor is what makes them bright, and I think John Pearse are the loudest or brightest in America. Pure Tones are famous from Australia! http://www.pure-tone.com/catalog/ There are copycats now, D'Addario makes some phosphors. Thomastik Infelds are nice too. But I use the Da'Addarios on my Garrison A/E which is so loud and almost too bassy it needs brightness to compensate.

Dangerine, got your Guild yet? Man, I wish. So is Dangerine a good band too? Laughing

Dunno how often you change ya strings but I am using Martins now (mediums) and they do seem to go "dull" rather quickly. But I guess how often you play, how you play , sweaty hands etc etc will all effect thier performance

I'm using Elixer phos.bronze, last a lot longer than the uncoated & are brighter than the nano or polys.
