Has anyone on this forum ever succeeded in nailing down all the solos in Alan Jackson's 'I Don't Even Know Your Name'? I've attempted it on occasion, and it's HARD!! Any tips and advice on this would be appreciated, because I feel that if I learned all this, I could arrive at the skill level I've always wanted to be at. Thanks.

Well, yes I have. Embarassed

I've been a Ray Flacke and Albert Lee disciple since the mid 1970's, so playing Brent Mason chops is kind of a natural progression.

The main thing you need to know is double stops, steel bends and chromatic scales.
Oh yeah, you also gotta play'em fast as hell........... Good luck.

What I'm having the most trouble with is the first four bars of the solo, with the ascending chromatic notes. The steel bends and double stops I already know how to do. Fast chromatic notes is where I'm a little weak, especially when they alternate with open strings. I guess I'm just gonna have to sit down with some tab and sweat it out. Oh yeah, and practice chromatic scales! Thanks. Btw, Ruben, I've heard your playing on your website. You're fantastic! Cool

You're right, the best way to learn Chromatic scales is just to practice your tail off! But once you get'em down, they are nice to have in the old arsenal. Wink

And thanks for the compliment on those old tunes on my myspace. Those things at at the very least 15 years old!
Someday I gotta get some new stuff on there as my my pickin' has changed a lot!
