I was telling people at church how I hurt it. Pocketknife folded back close with my finger in the way.
Most were like, why did you do that... (like I meant to) so here is the rest of the story...

I am a man!! No use arguing it, denying it or trying to hide from it. I am a man through and through and as a man I WILL MAKE a tool work for other applications it is not intended for. Do I have the right tool, why Yes because I am a man and it is intended for a man to have tools.
But did I have the right tool handy? Ahhhh that is the question. No you see the right tool was in the car, some 100 feet away in the cold outside and I had a tool that I could MAKE work in the trusty old pocket knife. So I did not need the right tool. I mean going to get the right tool would have taken some of my manliness away. I mean that is like giving up, and men don't give up we keep going because that it who we are. We WILL find the place we are searching for eventually as we drive around. We WILL be able to assemble that new doo hickey without the instructions mind you because we are men and we can!
So at that moment in time, I made a man decision and figured I would MAKE this knife work. When the knife did not work, it was not the tool's fault, it was the tool at the operating end of the tool that failed. It ended my event of purpose as I stood there bleeding from a laceration on my finger. My eyes watered up, but I DID NOT cry because I am a man. I wanted to scream and ooooh and ahhhhh because it hurt so bad, but I kept a straight upper lip and did not let one little wimper escape my mouth because I am a man. So I wrapped it in an old towel because I am a man and men don't need some clean towel, any old shop towel will do. And I drove myself to the hospital because I am a man and I don't need to be mama'd around by someone, I still had one good hand. I sat for three hours in the hospital ER waiting for my chance to get taken care of, even uttering the "if you got some thread and needle I will take care of it myself" statement because I am a man. When my time came to go back to the exam rooms, I walked with my head held high, without a glimmer of pain on my face nor a tear in my eye because I am a man. I sat in the exam room, ramrod straight ready to face the nurses and doctors who would be taking care of me, certain that they would see that, I am a man. The nurse brought in the instruments to fix my wound and the doctor readied the table. A surynge (sp?) was prepared and I braced myself to make sure I was seen as the man that I am. As the doctor held the surynge up and it was emptied of air bubbles I remember telling myself, I am a man and I will not flinch...
good thing I did not tell myself not to faint or I might not be much of a man.... Laughing Laughing Laughing

Most of the above story is true, the part about fainting was false, I did not faint until the doc was grabbing my tendon with his forceps and making my finger go up and down as he yanked on the tendon. I then and only then got a little woosey and needed to lay down, but I did not faint because I am a man... Laughing

Preach, that was beautiful. My hat's off before such eloquence.

I hope you take better care of your hands. You are prone to injury, both real and imagined. Also, I hope you never faint. I'm not sure there are many people around that would be big enough to catch you!! Very Happy

Stitches come out Thursday, and I am thinking I am ready to start again as the finger is becoming better and better.
I forgot about the "imagined" injury on the last build, Karma will always get ya!! Laughing Laughing

Build still on hold, got to build two pinewood derby cars for the boys first. Will give me some time to perfect my finishing skills... Laughing

Well I am almost healed up from my accident so onto the build.

I have not had a bunch of time available, but I did get the blank all glued up and ready to cut out.
It will be a poplar body (what I had on hand) and this wood is pretty resonant (at least it was on the Replicaster) so it should work pretty well. It will be getting painted but it does have a pretty cool grain pattern.

The two boards are what was left from the Econocater/Replicaster/Bondocaster builds so one was a little longer than the other. The bass side horn will be on the long board with the treble horn on the shorter board.

SA you are right, I keep getting tempted to do a Mary Kay strat, but I hate gold hardware... Very Happy

Finishing up the router templates so I can cut the body and the control cavities will be the next agenda.

Vntage bridge,
white PG
Chrome hardware
Lefty neck, I might have to go for a righty though, leftys are hard to come by. But I am intriqued with the high E being the shortest and the low E being the longest string. Anyone have any experience with that?

I don't care for most guitars with gold hardware, either, that's why I'm buildin' a Mary Kaye with chrome stuff. Well, maybe she won't be a "real" Mary Kaye, I might have to call her Naughty Mary, or Chrome Mary, or somethin'...

That whole upside down headstock thing is, IMHO, pure hokum urban myth. I've played "normal" 6-on-a-side style, inverted 6, 3-on-a-side, and the sawed-off no headstock Steinberger style, and I can't tell any difference in the string's wavelength, or tone produced, related to that little length of string out beyond the nut, which is where the active area of the string starts.

The only players I've heard tout that theory are those who lust after Hendrix's tone, or deathmetal dudes who tune way below standard pitch. I believe you can achieve different tone with increased string length and diameter (ala baritone guitars), but not by extending string length beyond the point where the vibration wave stops, at the nut.

Stay tuned,
Stan

So Stan, you are saying there is no more or less Mojo with the backwards headstock or a standard headstock.
Don't looks acount for something? Laughing Laughing

It has the be the headstock, I mean Jimi's strats were all straight off the shelf right? Surely I can achieve that same tonal properties with a guitar pade to look like his... Laughing Laughing

Oh well, we shall see what I can find on EvilBay for a neck. Righty or lefty, because as you know, I am Econcaster fool!!

Yeah, looks count for something, but I look for something deeper, Soul! Cool

It's just my opinion of course, but most people I see with those headstocks, are heavily into Poseurtude, dude. Rolling Eyes
