How many of you use your thumb while paying? Lately, I'm finding myself using my thumb to fret the bass note in a complex chord or to hit the root note during a lead for some punch. Anyone?

Oh and while I'm at it, what kind of hand stance do you guys use? Perfectly perpendicular to the neck, or angled (I call that the "texas" stance). My hand i very angled during leads and riffs, and even a little when chording. I really find it opens the neck up.

Oh! You're talking about your left thumb! (if you're playing "right-handed")

Well, I do use my thumb wrapping around the neck for bass notes on some chords, but I don't think I've ever done that on a lead, or fill.

As far as hand position, that changes for me depending on what I'm reaching for. I'll change my elbow, wrist and hand position at will during any given song.

I only use my left thumb on certain chords. My left hand is angled for riffs and leads and perpendicular for most bar chords.

I tend to "thumb over" a lot, especially when I'm singing and putting more effort into my voice than my hands.

I try but dont really get much use due to technique I think. But it is coming on. Currently i am concentrating on moving fingers fast enough for licks riffs.

Still ill persevere.

Though i do find it easier on my strat than my LP though the LP has a thinner neck or so it feels.
