I don't know how long this is going to take. I learn everything else in 5 minutes, but this one teqhnique just bugs the heck out of me. I went out and bought a new guitar, just because I thought it would help. nothing. Pinch harmonics. I need as much help as I can get. Oh yah and wikipedia, Laughing it says buchanan is the pinch harmonic pioneer. If I knew that I would have went out and bought a les paul. #Mad Also another pioneer of pinch is zakk wylde. if you know who that is. Rolling Eyes

Pinch harmonics are not hard to do and once you get the technique down you can do them on an acoustic guitar. I like ol Zakk but I think he over uses the hell outta the technique.

Anyways, Choke up on your pick a lil bit and when you pick the note roll your fingers out and barely touch your thumb to the string. You just barely want to touch the fleshy part of the thumb to the string on the way out. Also a little vibrato helps accentuate the "squeal"

Hope this helps. Good luck.

It's one of those things that, as soon as you get it, you get it and can do it repeatedly. But you have to keep at it in order to get the feel.

Lonewolfe's right about chocking up on the pick. Try choking up on it as much as possible(just a nub showing) and try hittin' a string hard without touching it. It's impossible, but that light touch should set off the harmonic.

Good luck!

Buchanan? As in Roy Buchanan? A Les Paul? He's one of the gods of the Telecaster! Shocked

Now Billy Gibbons on the other hand...

Yeah, it's true. Roy had a Les Paul, too, but we all think of him as a Teleman.

Here ya go......................

Roy used a Tele for almost all of his career. He would sometimes use a Les Paul in the studio however.
Have no fear SRVLOVER, Roy was a Tele worshiper through and through. Cool
