Hey guys, I just got a Lifco tube amp head from the sixties, and it's making an odd noise. To start off, it sounds absolutely amazing, like a cross between a soldano and a marshall, very cool. The only problem I have with it is that on the lower frequencies it emits this sort of fizzy buzzing sound. I don't think it's the speaker because it happens whether the amp volume is dimed or minimum, same thing with the guitars volume control. Adding mids and treble with my AC+ seems to curb the problem, and actually sounds pretty dang good, but I want to be able to use it however I want. Any ideas on what the problem is? Oh and by the way to minimize the problem I have the bass on the amp on 0 and treble at 12 o'clock. The bass seems to act a a bass/mids/gain control, and I really wish I could put it to good use, but the amp makes an odd fizzing sound and if the bass control is up high it gets worse. Oh and the fizzing starts when the note starts to decay into harmonics or after playing a note/chord repeatedly.
Thanks for the help

The first thing I'd be checking is if the tubes and sockets are all in good shape. After that I would look at recapping it.

Yep, sounds like a filter cap. I'm not familiar with that amp but a good tech should be able to pinpoint the problem. It would be a shame to have a cool amp and not be able to turn the bass up. Good luck.
