I would do a "Search" on FT. I think this question has been done to death already, and also a lot of good info around here. Two of my favorites are the ProCo Rat pedal and the Ibanez TS9.

I'm gonna spam my Xotic AC+ again. If you're got the scratch, check one out.

Visual Sound's Jekyll & Hyde. It's one of their two-in-one pedals, combining a nice OD (using the same chip as the old Tube Screamers) that also features a switchable bass boost, and a distortion unit for extra crunch. They can be used independently or together. This gives you a nice variety of levels of intensity. Considering the range of music you're talking about, I think it'd do the trick nicely.

I'd heard a lot about these thingies here and on other forums, and ended up buying one from Stan a while back. Definitely a good value for the money. VS recently redesigned the whole line with smaller cases. You shouldn't have any trouble finding the older ones on the 'Bay for about a hundred bucks.

I like my Boss Super O/d in front of my Marshall and my Crate. What amp are you using?

Id go with the DOD 250, preferably the early 80's grey version, otherwise the yellow is also good, or a reissue of the two.

My current overdrive is the GT-OD, courtesy of MXR. I'm pleased with it, it gives a grainy and organic overdrive. A little temperamental in the controls, but I'd recommend it.

This one has intrigued me. Greg Koch seems to like it:
