Hi there,

Since last month, I have start playing Country gigs with another guy. On stage, we use sequences for base, keyboards and drums. We use monitors for vocals, sequences and our guitars are sent to the monitors too. My amp is mike with a sure sm57.

Currently, I am using my lovely Digitech GSP 2101 Tube pre-amp with a Roland Cube 30. Honestly the Roland Cube sound very well, I have a lot of compliments for my playing and my sound but with the experience that I have, I know that a Tube amp would sound a lot better and I would have more sustain too.

Since we don't have live drums and we only use monitors on stage, I need an amp that is not to loud that I could push hard enough to get a good sustain. 25 years ago, I had a Blackface Fender Deluxe Reverb (22 watts) and I think this amp would be a very good amp for this kind of situation.

I would love to have another Deluxe blacface but they are to expensive to buy now. One option that I have start looking is to built my Deluxe Blacface with an Allen kit. I wonder if the kits offer by Allen sounds as good as a real blacface?

What type of Amp would you use for this type of situation?

Thanks,
StratQc

The Allen amps are excellent, and you could have a great time putting it together. There are a several companies that have similar kits available, like Brown Note, and Weber.

If you're looking for a quicker solution the Deluxe Reissue would be a decent alternative, too.

Hey StratQc
Venturas here, If you want a tube sound without a lot of volume and don't want to spend $1000+ on a new deluxe reissue, You might look around for a 1980s model Concert with 1-12" speaker. they have the effects loop with input and output gain controls. these allow you to not only use outboard effects but you can adjust the overall gain structure of the amp and reduce your volume level without loosing tonal quality. The new Super sonics have the same loop, however, they can cost as much as $1400 depending on where you can get one. The Concert Reverbs can be found on Ebay and prices will range from $700 on up depending on the condition and whether or not there have been any mods. The more original condition of the amp the higher the price. Another suggestion is if you are already getting a good sound with your amp. Try the new Boss pedal that emulates the 65 deluxe reverb. They also have one for the 59 Bassman. I personally haven't tried either of these yet but I want to.
Remember, Tube amps are HEAVEY! and they are LOUD. You'll want to find something that offers an overdrive channel so you can adjust gain and volume. Oh,I wanted to tell you my group plays alot of pop country and our Lead player uses a Concert Reverb with an ADA delay unit Patched into the Loop and a Wah Wah pedal. That's his whole arsenal. He uses everything from the Squier 51 Tele-Strat to a 52 Telecaster reissue. and all types of Axes in between. But this Concert Reverb is his Baby!

Hi guys,

Thank you for your suggestions.

Venturas, how can I adjust the overall gain with the effect loop? This option is very interesting and I would like to know more about it. I have use amps with effect loops in the past but I have no experience with those that has a volume on it.

Thanks,
StratQc

Hi guys,

I have done a lot of research and I think it will be better for my type of playing to go with a two channel amp instead of a one channel amp.

From what I have found, the Traynor Custom Valve YCV20WR could be a very good amps for me. The price is very good and the comments are also very good.

Any comment on the YCV20WR? Any other suggestion in that price range?

Thanks,
StratQc
