I just remembered this the other day. It was so embarrassing that I think I tucked it away in my subconcious.

I was in Raleigh NC for a training class a few years ago. I always used to take my guitar along on those trips to take advantage of the lost hotel hours. I used to carry a tuning fork in those days as elec. tuners were just becoming popular and I'd never even seen one. A friend of mine lives in Raleigh and he called me and said there was an "open mic" type deal with a full backup band going on at a local hang out that night and he thought I might want to play at it. So we went. I was asked to sign up on the sheet and handed an electric tuner to tune up. I looked at it and plugged into it and, as simple as they may be I couldn't figure it out. so I grabbed my tuning fork while no one was paying attention and quickly tried to tune 'er up. Well, to keep the story as short a possible. I ended up about a 1/2 step high, or low not sure now. They called my name and I got up on stage and told the House Band I'd be doing "Big Boss Man in E" At first the other musicians tried to figure out where I was and then they just started setting down their instruments and walking off the stage until it was just me and the drummer. It was aweful, easily one of the most embarrassing moments it my life. But, on the bright side, I soon owned an electronic tuner and learned how to use it. Rolling Eyes
