I came across a harp amp called the Hoodoo Box by Hohner. It's a 5W class A amp with true spring reverb. Has an 8" Celestion speaker EL84 power tube and a 12AX7 & 12AU7 in the gain channel for aprox $275. I thought this would be perfect as a guitar/harp amp since there don’t seem to be too many 5watt class A amps with true reverb. Of course this is a harp amp which I though might not work well with guitar. So I called Hohner up and spoke with a nice guy named Rick who was actually involved in the amp design.
Says he’s guitarist himself and wanted this to work well for both instruments. For guitar he says by switching the second AU7 to a AX7 tube you'll have a great recording/practice amp for guitar. Something he intended for this amp even though it's primarily marketed for harp players. If you play harp and guitar this is definately something worth checking out since there aren't a lot of good little 5 watters with true reverb at this price.
Here's a pick with a link to MF. Looks like these won't be available until Feb. '08

| That's a cool little amp man. With that tube setup I bet it sings. |

Yup, a cute little booger for sure!
I think it's great that there is a lot of interest and development in the small tube amps lately. |

Dang, that is a cute little booger! Wow, has it been totally refurbished or was it just in a glass jar for the last 60 years? |

I'm a Blues Harp Player for 30 years and I'm considering buying this lil booger, but I dont think 5 watts will cut it on stage. I havent played it yet.... Is it loud? or is it for pratice/recording only
Thanks,
JByrd |
